What If It Does?

How I Overcame Limiting Beliefs To Start My Blog

It took a lot of deep inner work to get here. I had a plethora of reasons why this space “couldn't work” at least, according to the limiting beliefs I carried .

What are limiting beliefs?

Limiting beliefs are mental blocks that stop you from going after what you want. They are often are shaped by fear, societal norms, and ideas that have been planted into us when we were young. These thoughts can affect any area of life like our career, relationships, health, creativity, or personal growth. Over the past year I've been intentionally working on releasing the limiting beliefs that kept me stagnant. As the idea of creating this blog grew in my mind, a few new and deeply buried ones came to surface.

  • “Nobody reads blogs anymore”

  •  “I'm not a good writer”

  •  “nobody is gonna listen to me and what I have to say”,

  • “ I don't even know how to start a blog” (yet here we are) .

Flipping the script on Self- Doubt

The key to overcoming a limiting belief is to catch it as soon as it appears and then flip it into something empowering

  • “People definitely still read blogs and they're looking for the right ones to connect with.”

  • “The best way to become a good writer is to start writing.”

  •  “There is someone out there that needs to hear the things I've learned.”

  • “I can figure it out step-by-step.”

This shift doesn't mean the fear will go away because although flipping the script helped immensely I still felt an anxious-excited knot in my stomach. But I reminded myself that procrastination is the thief of all pursuits. So, I started anyway.

The Lesson: Action Beats Overthinking

Now I'm here, writing my first blog post and it feels so good. So, this is what I've learned, the best lessons don't come from books, courses, or podcasts, they simply come from taking action.  One of my favorite voices, Myron Golden said something along the lines of: We always ask ourselves, “what if it doesn’t work?” But what if we switched that to “what if it does?” Ever since I heard that, it’s become my go-to mindset shift whenever doubt creeps in.

How Can You Start Breaking Your Own Limiting Beliefs

If you want to release a limiting belief, here's where to begin:

  1. Identify it. Ask yourself, "What's the story I'm telling myself that's holding me back?”

  2. Trace its roots. Where did that belief come from? Was it childhood, past failures, someone else's irrelevant opinion?

  3. Flip it. Rewrite the belief into something positive and empowering

  4. Act anyway. Confidence grows from doing, not just thinking.

Because the truth is, you’ll never know what could happen unless you start. And what if… it works?
